Installing OpenOffice.org for debian is very easy with apt-get/dselect or
dpkg. 1.Installing OpenOffice.org with apt-get. If you are using debian-unstable (aka sid), debian-testing (aka etch) or debian-stable (aka sarge) you do not need to change /etc/apt/sources.list. If you are using
debian-oldstable (aka Woody or Debian 3.0r4), you have to choose a mirror of our
debian-packages-mirrors from here and put it in your
/etc/apt/sources.list.Ok, we will go ahead with the installation of OpenOffice.org. Type apt-get update ; apt-get install openoffice.org.You can do apt-get install openoffice.org openoffice.org-bin
openoffice.org-l10n-en too, this will work! Choose openoffice.org-l10n-$CC
for your CountryCode, that you want.OpenOffice.org is now already installed in the debian-package, so, the only thing you need to do is just type openoffice into a shell or
click on the icons at your WindowManager. If you have a tar-ball off OpenOffice.org installed, please delete it before you are starting OpenOffice.org from the debian-package. Just do these steps for this: If you have OpenOffice.org already installed on your system, you have to remove the installation of OpenOffice.org and the configurations files in your $HOME directory - rm -rf .openoffice .user60.rdb .sversionrc ; rm -rf
/path/to/your/openoffice.org/installation.2.Installing OpenOffice.org with dselect If you are using debian-unstable (aka sid) or debian-testing (aka sarge) you do not need to change /etc/apt/sources.list. If you are using
debian-stable (aka Woody or Debian 3.0r2), you have to choose a mirror of our
debian-packages-mirrors from here and put it in your
/etc/apt/sources.list.Then choose update for updating the package list in dselect. Then use select for selecting the openoffice.org packages. You will find it the section contrib/editors. Dselect will point you to the dependencies and you
can choose the langpackage openoffice.org-l10n-$CC, where $CC stands for your
CountryCode. Then go to install and install the new packages. After that you can simply run openoffice from a shell or click on
on of the OpenOffice.org icons in your Windowmanager, GNOME or KDE.3.Installing OpenOffice.org with dpkg The following example is for version 1.0.3-2. Adjust it for your versionnumber! For debian-unstable or debian-testing, you have to download the packages of openoffice.org from one of our official mirrors. If you are running debian-stable (aka Woody or Debian 3.0r2) to to our mirrorspage and download it from there. You need the packages openoffice.org_1.0.3-2_all.deb, openoffice.org-bin_1.0.3-2_$ARCH.deb and
openoffice.org-l10n-en_1.0.3-2_all.deb, where $ARCH stands for i386,powerpc, sparc or s390.
Then run dpkg -i openoffice.org_1.0.3-2_all.deb openoffice.org-bin_1.0.3-2_$ARCH.deb openoffice.org-l10n-en_1.0.3-2_all.dep.
After that, you should be able to run openoffice from a shell or by
clicking on an icon in your Windowmanager, GNOME or KDE.PLEASE NOTE, ONLY APT-GET OR DSELECT ARE RESOLVING THE DEPENDENCIES AUTOMATICLY. IF YOU ARE RUNNING DPKG FOR INSTALLING OPENOFFICE.ORG, YOU MIGHT INSTALL SOME OTHER PACKAGES, WHICH OPENOFFICE.ORG IS DEPENDING ON. THEREFORE WE ARE SUGGESTING TO USE APT-GET/DSELECT. |
